I think that her perception of what a hero is changes drastically over the course of the book. During her childhood, she think that heroes are people who died during the revolution, and later during the war. She also seems jealous that all of her friends parents are dying and being called martyrs and heroes. Then when she finally hears about uncle Anoosh being killed, she proceeds to brag to everyone about it. During this time, she also realizes that even though they may be called a hero, the pain of losing still may be great. Losing her uncle makes her realize the being a hero isn't anything. However, her perception of heroes really seems to change when she gets older. She goes against what many people thought, saying that the martyrs weren’t really heroes. She even gets sick of having to talk about the martyrs, as shown when she makes fun of them during school. She would make fun of them which caused her teachers to resent her. Then when she went to Austria I think that later in the book, if she goes back to Iran, she will resent the heroes and martyrs even more.
I totally agree! The only person I would add would be God. I know it's kinda not a "Hero" but he played at one point a significant role in marjis life.
